Ruthin Town Football Club
Click button for 5 Day Weather Forecast for Ruthin from BBC Weather:
Football in Ruthin dates back to
1880 when they reached the final of the Welsh Cup, only to lose 2-1 to Druids.
However the present club was founded as recently as 1951. Honours include
winning the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1967 and 1973. Ruthin have played much of
their football in the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) as indeed their
Reserves and Colts do still. In 1979 the club began to climb
towards their present position by winning the Third Division and the following
year completed the double of winning the Second Division and winning the League
Cup. Ruthin were promoted to the Cymru Alliance in 1991-92 after finishing
runners up in the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) and winning the Premier
Division Cup the same year. Ever presents since, the club are one of the
league's longest serving members. The sixth place achieved in 2002 /3 was real progress and 2003/4’s 3rd represented the best to date and vindicated the club's youth policy. However, manager Tim Dyer departed to local rivals Denbigh in summer 2004 taking some players with him. Others left for Llandyrnog and Bala Town . Former Chester City winger Jon Cross became manager joining Ruthin from Mold Alexandra along with centre half Lee Jones who was his assistant. Jon was forced to resign in December because of increasing work commitments and the committee promoted Lee Jones . Sion Roberts became his assistant. A season of consolidation saw relegation avoided, many local youngsters blooded and a platform built to enable real progress in the coming years. However , the 2005 campaign saw a run of poor performances threaten the clubs Cymru Alliance status. After the humiliation of a 0-3 home defeat to local rivals Llandyrnog a change of management became necessary. Senior player Edwart Jones was appointed and with over 20 years experience at the club we know he will give us his all. The Club has an excellent Youth system and runs two other senior sides in the Welsh National Leagues. We produce a good match day programme and have an official website which can be found at http://www.ruthintownfc.com.
Travel south east to Ruthin on the A525 from the A55 at St. Asaph or north west up the A525 from Wrexham. Those travelling from west and east should take the A494. From whichever direction you travel, head for Park Road which is the road that runs through the middle of Ruthin and joins the A494 and A525 together. As you travel along this road look for the Fire Station as the ground is behind it. Turn down Parc-y-dre Road and then into Cae Seren to access the car park.
