Click button for 5 Day Weather Forecast for Prestatyn from BBC Weather: It may have only been a short history for Queen's Park F.C., but it's one that has seen them win almost everything in sight to reach this level. The club was formed in 1988 by Darren Richardson and Phil Williams, after a meeting in the Red Dragon pub in Queens Park and after a sponsorship deal, the team was known as Richardson Foods. The manager at the time was Pete Richardson (no relation to the sponsors) and the club played in the Wrexham Sunday League Division 5.
In 1991, the club changed
their name to the Red Dragon, but at one point they looked set to fold because
of financial constraints placed on teams. Former manager Phil Williams said, "It
was the players who were putting in their own money to keep the club going. To
pay for officials and pitch hire, all the day to day running of the club was
difficult.” In 1994, the club changed their name for a second time and became known as Queens Park F.C. The change in name resulted in an upturn in fortunes for the side. The club pulled off a Sunday League Division 5 league and cup double and earned promotion through the ranks to the second division. A period of major success was just around the corner for Queens Park, which included a North East Wales Sunday Challenge Cup win, reaching the prestigious Shelley Cup final and a win in the Presidents Cup over Oswestry Town in 1995. Queens Park were only the second Sunday league side to lift the Presidents Cup since it was established in 1988. After finishing third in Division 1 in 1999, player/manager Phil Williams, founder member Darren Richardson and new club secretary Kath Campbell moved the side to play in the Saturday tier league and joined the Welsh National League. Queens Park have taken the Division 3 league and cup double, Division 2 league and cup double and the Division 1 league title. In 2005 the team won the Premier Division championship and gained promotion to the Cymru Alliance.
Queens Park certainly didn’t make too many friends during the 2005-06 season as the club struggled through without the adequate playing and financial resources necessary at this level and with a dearth of the people every club needs behind the scenes. There were many embarrassments both on and off the pitch and it was remarkable that Dave Evans, Stewart Roberts and Mike Beech got the club through to the seasons end. During the summer the club came close to folding before a massive change and rebirth occurred. THE club is now a Public Limited Company under the ownership of one of Britain's leading independent personnel management companies, the Wrexham based Gap Personnel. Gap's owner Gary Dewhurst is the new Chairman and day to day management of the club is vested in Stewart Roberts as General Manager. He is assisted by Levi Lloyd as Football Manager and Roger Preece as First team coach. Trevor Green is the experienced club Secretary. Adrian Gough is the finance Professional and Treasurer. The club intend to turn visiting the Queensway Stadium into one of the highlights of the season for visiting clubs, not only by playing on the excellent pitch and within the modern stadium but in also making steps to ensure a warm welcome and hospitality to match the best. The club are committed to staging a great after match reception at the new HQ, The War Memorial Club, situated adjacent to Tesco's in Central Wrexham. A good match day programme and a decent PA system will also be provided. The club has changed its name to Gap-Queens Park F.C. and have changed colours too. The regular strip is all White and the change strip is all Pale Blue. The new 2007/08 version of this club will look, feel and play very differently to its 2006/07 predecessor.
