Brymbo FC v BTFC Reserves | 30.01.10 | Match Report

Buckley started well and put Brymbo under pressure with some tidy passing on the very wet surface.

On 8 minutes Chris Hepworth played a good pass into Mathew Connah who held the ball up and played it beyond the full back to Mark Thomas. Thomas raced to the bye line and pulled the ball back only for Mike Cunningham to miss the target.

Brymbo were struggling in the conditions but on 15 minutes Buckley had a warning when a long ball caught the defence off guard. Fortunately Declan Friel got back to make the tackle.

25 minutes gone and the same move started as previously from Hepworth resulted in Thomas this time crossing for Craig Worthington at the far post. Despite fluffing his shot he managed to find the far corner (0 - 1).

Brymbo where playing a very high line and on two more occasions Buckley broke clear resulting in chances for Connah and Thomas but both shot wide.

With 40 minutes gone Colin Talbot took three players on and found him self in the box but his shot went narrowly wide. Brymbo made a mess of their goal kick and Worthington was able to finish at the second attempt (0 -2).

The half ended with another warning from Brymbo when their left winger broke clear but failed to finish.

The second half started with Buckley controlling the play but then became a little lazy allowing Brymbo to start bossing the midfield. The game also became a bit tougher as both teams put in some hard tackles. One resulted in Connah having to go off for Jon Savory on 55 mins. The referee at one stage brought both captains in for a chat which calmed things down.

On 57 minutes Savory laid off a lovely ball to Tom Dodd who played in Worthington. He struck the cross bar from 20 yards. Then almost immediately after a great through ball by Cunningham Thomas ran clear and rounded the keeper (0 - 3). A very important goal.

On 65 mins Brymbo attacked down the Buckley left resulting in a player being put through. Under pressure from Friel he managed to totally miss the ball.

Thomas was replaced by Daniel Anders making Buckley more solid in midfield and they took charge for the last 25 minutes. Worthington had 3 chances to get his hatrick the closest of which came when he struck the post in the 85th minute.

A good run out for the lads and we must thank Brymbo for switching the fixture to their place and getting their pitch in a playable condition.

Squad: Ben Jones, Chris Hepworth, Nathan Bellis, Declan Friel, Joe Trueman, Mark Thomas, Tom Dodd, Colin Talbot, Craig Worthington, Mathew Connah, Mike Cunningham (c)

Subs: Daniel Anders (65mins for 7), Jon Savory (55mins for 10), Russell Moore (87mins for Savory)

Goals: Worthington 2, Thomas 1.

BTFC v Penrhyncoch FC | 30.01.10 | Match Report

Buckley Town staged a dramatic late recovery to come from behind against Penrhyncoch - extending their winning running to five games and their unbeaten run to 12.

On a cold afternoon two of the Cymru Alliance’s in-form sides met on a Globe Way pitch dusted with snow for what proved to be a closely fought game.

It was fair to say that defences came out on top in the first half with little goalmouth action produced by either side. Buckley edged the possession and on 20 minutes came close to breaking the deadlock – the visiting goalkeeper making point-blank saves from Phil Molyneux and Joey Desormeaux.

Generally the Bucks produced some neat attacking football but received a warning from the away side when Richard Evans curled a shot over the bar after a well-worked move.

In the minutes leading up to the break it was the Bucks central defenders who came closest to scoring. First a Gareth Edwards header from a corner was tipped over the bar and a minute later Mark Orme headed over from close-range with the goalkeeper beaten.

On the stroke of half-time there was a clash between both sets of players sparked by a deliberate elbow to the face of Buckley’s Gareth Edwards. A free-kick was eventually awarded by the referee before Neil Wynne hit a shot over the bar.

Molyneux was sent clean through but Hughes in the Penrhyncoch goal was out to close him down. It remained 0-0 at the break with two good teams cancelling each other out.

Once the second-half was under way neither side could get hold of the game. Buckley manager Gareth Thomas replaced Dean Hardstaffe with Dave Hughes on 58 minutes in an attempt to gain the advantage. Three minutes later though it was the away side who took the lead.

Josh Shaw raced to the by-line and crossed for Richard Evans to tap home at the far post making it 1-0 to Penrhyncoch – slightly against the run of play.

The Bucks responded immediately with Molyneux crossing for Gareth Edwards at the left post but he couldn’t apply the finish. As Buckley cranked up the pressure a drive from Neil Wynne went just over.

With 20 minutes to go Penrhyncoch introduced Mathew Evans in place of Mark Egan. Buckley’s second substitution came with quarter of an hour remaining – Liam Caddick coming on for Gareth Edwards. A minute later a Mark Orme header following a free-kick was held comfortably by the goalkeeper.

Just over 10 minutes remained when Buckley finally levelled. A Molyneux cross was flicked on by Liam Caddick for Dave Hughes to drill home on the 6-yard line to make it 1-1. From the re-start the Bucks won the ball back with Caddick played in down the left but unfortunately – though his effort was on target – the goalkeeper was equal to it.

The game became stretched in the closing stages as both sides went for the win. With 5 minutes to go Penrhyncoch replaced goalscorer Richard Evans with Steve Jones while Buckley where unable to profit from a goalmouth scramble as the visiting defence blocked well.

As the final whistle approached Caddick crossed into the area for Neil Wynne to connect on the volley. It seemed as though the goalkeeper might get enough behind it to keep the ball out but he couldn’t and the Bucks took a late lead at 2-1.

A Bucks substitution saw Colin Quirk give way to Sam Roberts and captain John Leonard picked up a booking but that was the last action of the game.

The Bucks continued their fine recent run and cemented their place up with the league’s front-runners with an excellent win against a difficult Penrhyncoch side – the reaction from the players and fans at the end of the game reflected what a good three points this was.

BTFC v Penrhyncoch FC | 30.01.10 | Preview

This weekend see us entertain Penrhyncoch at the Globe. This is an important game between 4th and 5th place and a must win game for us as we chase the top 3 and try and close the gap whilst ensuring we pick up as many points to cement our place in the Cymru Alliance for next season.

Gareth Thomas commented that, "Again we seem to be getting no luck on the injury front with young goalkeeper Joe Makaruk likely to miss the remainder of the season after cracking bones in his foot last Sunday in the Welsh Youth Cup tie against an impressive Llandudno side."

"Saturday's game should be decent as Penrhyncoch are having a really good season with a young team. We visited them just before Christmas and returned with a hard fought 3 points with a 3-1 victory. Another performance like that will do but I'm sure our visitors will be up for the game."

Team news see's us having to make a couple of changes from last week's 16 man squad due to unavailability and also young Dan Moore leaving the club to join Mold Alex. I wish him good luck with his new club. Barry Calder is away, Stu Woods completes his suspension whilst Stu Hayes is still a week away from full fitness at least and the unfortunate Joe Makaruk is out with his injury. Into the squad will come defender Sam Roberts, forward Bohan Dixon and goalkeeping coach Alan Tyrrell will also be named on the bench.

Gareth added, "I thought last weeks performance was good in parts but after not playing for 5 weeks the result was all that mattered. Credit to the lads, I thought their fitness levels were good considering our lack of football over the Christmas period. Credit for this must go to Keith Davies and Chris Hughes who have trained the team hard over the break. The boys all worked hard for one another and it was good to see Wynnie get back on the goal trail, whilst pleasing performances came from the returning duo Rees Darlington and Dean Hardstaff, who have been absent with injuries since early November. It was also pleasing to see Dave 'Chesney' Hughes finally make his debut.

Lets hope for another 3 points this weekend and your support is appreciated.

Squad from: 1 Jamie Hulse 2 Sam Roberts 3 Rees Darlington 4 Gareth Edwards 5 Mark Orme 6 Colin Quirk, 7 Joe Desormeaux 8 John Leonard 9 Neil Wynne 10 Phil Molyneaux 11 Wes Brereton 12 Dean Hardstaff, 13 Dave Hughes, 14 Liam Caddick, 15 Alan Tyrrell, 16 Craig Goodwin 17 Bohan Dixon.

Joey Makaruk fractures his ankle

Joey Makaruk Buckley Towns promising young goalkeeper who has been out on loan this season with Unibond High Flyers Colwyn Bay has sustained a fractured ankle whilst representing Buckley Town Youth in Sundays Welsh Youth Cup defeat to the hands of Llandudno Town at Globe Way, Makaruk collided with his own defender and a Llandudno striker as he smothered a ball in his penalty area, and after receiving treatment battled on bravely completing the 90mins being in some pain at the end of the game.

Joey will be in a light cast for a couple of weeks before returning for further x-rays, Managers Gareth Thomas and Russ Moore will be hopeful of good news on Makaruk after already having Ant Williams go under the knife already this season.

Everyone at Buckley Town wishes Joey all the best with his recovery and the Club will support him in whatever way they can as they have with Williams.

Brymbo FC v BTFC Reserves | 30.01.10 | Preview

There have been a few changes this week within the reserves firstly the bad news is that Joey Makaruk broke his foot last week in the Welsh Youth cup defeat to Llandudno ( 0 - 2) Joey will miss the rest of the season.

We have also lost Asa Hamilton who is going to try his hand with Lex X1 first team and Daniel Moore who has moved to Mold Alex and made his debut for his new team last Wednesday in Mold's 1- 0 win at Llandudno we wish them both well with their new teams.

These changes will give our other squad players a chance to make a claim and with several players cup tied we have not got many left to choose from the squad will be.

Squad: Jon Savoury, Ben Jones, Chris Hepworth, Declan Friel, Nathan Bellis, Adam scrappy Connah, Mark Thomas, Colin Talbot, Daniel Anders, Craig Worthington, Mike Cunningham, Rob Roberts, Mathew Connahs, Chris Lucas.
