Experienced Welsh Premier League Player David `Chesney` Hughes signs from Caersws FC

Buckley Town are pleased to announce the signing of experienced Welsh Premier League player David `Chesney` Hughes from Caersws FC. Hughes has played over 90 times in the WP plus 22 as a Substitute scoring 12 goals in the process. Hughes first came to the fore in the WP with Airbus UK under Gareth Owens reign and has since had spells at Porthmadog and most recently Caersws where his chances were limited under Caersws boss Mickey Evans.

Hughes is equally as comfortable on both flanks and is well respected for his ability levels especially going forward.

Chairman Stewart Roberts commented, "Its great to have captured Dave's signature ahead of a few clubs who were apparently interested. Once Gareth (Manager) and Chris Hughes were aware Dave was available they were quite clear to me that his quality at our level would enhance the squad. We are hoping to remain in the top 4 and players of this calibre will help us achieve this. Dave is also aware that we have assembled a very good squad and with the injury list clearing up he knows, as do the other players, that form and fitness must be achieved to keep your place in the side. Gareth has indicated he is more than happy with his squad now to get us through the next few months and no further changes are planned unless someone leaves."

On another positive note Dean Hardstaffe, Julian Jones, Rees Darlington, Stuart Hayes are now all likely to be available for Towns next match after all recovering from injury.

Ex Flexys Cefn Druids Striker and current Buckley player Anthony Williams has started the road to recovery after yesterday having re-construction surgery on his ACL after having a graft taken from his Hamstring. "Anthony is doing well and just looking forward to getting playing again, I am sure everyone who knows Psycho will be wishing him all the best on the long road to recovery."

Eric Ramsey has finally returned to TNS FC after his loan spell and is expected to join Welsh Premier side Welshpool Town on loan as he looks to earn himself a full time contract at TNS next year. A big thank you to Eric for his time at Globe Way and I am sure everyone will keep an eye on his progress over the coming months.

Gresford Athletic FC v BTFC | 09.01.10 | Preview

It is increasingly likely that the weekends programme of matches will fall to the prevailing weather conditions and that next weeks games could be at risk also (see picture left of Gresford Athletic's Clappers Lane pitch).

Very low temperatures and snowfall have seen pitches and surrounds freeze and then be blanketed with snow with no prospect of a thaw. Weather forecasts suggest that the current cold snap could be with us for some days yet and that the UK is in the grip of its longest cold snap for almost 30 years. Severe weather warnings are still in place across parts of the UK for both snow and ice.

Buckley Town have not played since the away win at Caernarfon Town on December 19th and have had five games postponed already this season. The Reserves have not played since early November. If the weekend's Cymru Alliance programme is lost, postponements will rise to more than 40 in the League, which is greater than the 35 matches lost in 2007/8 and the 37 fixtures that were postponed last season.

Once the thaw happens, pitches will become saturated by snow melt on surfaces that were already very wet from the rain that we had in November and December. Globe Way has not been playable for quite some time due to water logging and the impending snow melt will only make matters worse. It will require a sustained dry and windy period to assist in the drying process. Given that we are only in early January this prospect seems unlikely and so it is only likely that the League will lose more games to the weather in the coming weeks.

The result is that we could be starved of our much loved football for some time.

The only blessing in all of this is that players who have been carrying knocks will have had some extra time to recover aided by all the Turkey Stuffing, Xmas Pud and Yuletide Chocolate Log. A few more circuits in training is no doubt in store for all the players.
