Mynydd Isa v
BTFC
This was a game that was ultimately decided by a
sending off and some individual defensive mistakes that cost Buckley
dear.
The game was developing into a good local derby that
saw Buckley take the lead after 8 minutes, something that we do not
see a great deal of these days, as Jamie Rogers coolly slotted the
ball home from 12 yards. Isa then equalised through Ben Powell on
16. The game was reasonably evenly matched and being played in a
decent spirit, as both sides have players that have represented both
clubs and know each other well but it was always competitive.
Then the talking point of the match occurred as
Buckley left back Shaun Jones slid into a tackle that earned him a
yellow card. A free kick was awarded and the players made their
usual protestations to the referee, as they do. Jones turned to one
complaining Mynydd Isa player who was protesting "How many times,
referee" and told him to go away in no uncertain terms using the
language that players often do when addressing one another. This
earned him a second yellow card for the use of bad language on the
football field addressing a fellow player from the opposition.
Everyone thought this very harsh but we all need to remember that
both the players and staff have been warned that the referees will
clamp down upon such behaviour. Anyone who has read the directive
from FAW will have little argument that it is the right thing to do
and we all need to get used to it. We will see many more being sent
off throughout the year. Buckley have already experienced being a
player up when the opposition have a player dismissed, one of Flint
Town United's players was dismissed last Saturday for swearing at
his own player and so really have no excuses.
With 10 men, Buckley obviously began to struggle as
they worked hard to make up the one man disadvantage. They had
chances to score during the second half before Mynydd Isa eventually took
the lead, when substitute Craig Goodwin and Paul Connolly
rose high to head home from close range following play from corners.
They also had chances after conceding. In fact, it was Buckley that
actually finished the stronger following substitutions and Isa
sitting back feeling the job was done.
2 wins, 2 losses but the thought always lingers in my
mind that it could have been better as we have been a little unlucky
in both games. At the end of the day we must create our own luck,
take the chances that present themselves and most importantly work together as a
Team to build on what we already have. On to Llandudno and
hopefully, 3 more points.

Hawarden Rangers v
BTFC Reserves
The reserves made the short
journey to Hawarden on Saturday afternoon, to face a young Hawarden
Reserves side. With five injured players, our reserves had a very
youthful bench, with Tom Pennington being called up from the under
17s, Tom Clarke and Arron Griffiths filling the other two spots.
The game started in a scrappy manner, with neither team being able
to get the ball down and play football on a decent playing surface,
after the first quarter of an hour, however, the away team began to
find a rhythm, with Dave Catheral being a focal point for some good
periods of passing. We began to take control of the game, having a
lot of the ball, finding ourselves in good positions in the final
third, however, we were unable to create any real clear cut chances,
Paul Rambaldi providing possibly the highlight of the half with a
smart turn on the edge of their box leading to the debutante being
able to get a shot off, when perhaps passing to one of his three
team mates lined up on the edge, or within the box being a better
option. Danny Wade made a surge from the half way line at right
back, taking on three or four of his opponents before finally
pulling the trigger with the outside of his right boot, the shot
missing the far post by a matter of inches, Andy Bingham also saw a
good header from six yards fail to find the back of the net.
0-0 half time
The second half began much
the same as the first, with nobody really being able to put their
foot on the ball and play football, this set the tone for the
remainder of the game, Buckley had to battle, and did so, enabling
us to regain the initiative. After around an hour in Tom Clarke
came off the bench replacing Gareth Murray and soon after Arron
Griffiths replaced Paul Rambaldi up front, the injection of pace and
quick feet of Griffiths led to Buckley having a very strong penalty
appeal being turned down by the referee, who instead gave us a free
kick, when it seemed as though the foul was committed a yard inside
the penalty area. The resulting free kick came to nothing with the
Hawarden wall blocking.
With fifteen minutes to go,
Hawarden were reduced to ten men, after their only substitute had
been sent off not long after coming on for presumably dissent.
After a tangle with Kevin Groom, he claimed an elbow had been used
by the Buckley centre back, in an ungentlemanly manner, the referee
eventually sending him from the field after originally only going to
give him a yellow card.
0-0 full time
Russ Moore manager will be
hoping to have players back for Tuesday night as we host Airbus
Reserves, Moody and Astbury looking more likely to be fit than
Moore, Walton and Talbot.
