It was all over bar the shouting by half time as
Airbus showed their Welsh Premier class and cruised part Buckley
into the fourth round of the Welsh Cup.
Buckley made a valiant attempt for the first half an
hour but they were never really in it. Phil Molyneux scored the
first with a header from a left sided cross in the 22nd minute. Sam
Grimster then made a bad mistake and passed the ball directly into
the path of James McIntosh who steered the ball past Louis Makin in
the 26th. Phil Molyneux was then some what fortunate, when he
delivered a cross from the left hand side, that sailed over everyone
and curled into the top left hand corner of Makin's goal.
Any hope of a Buckley come back after that were then
crushed when referee Carmelo LoFaro decided to send off striker Alan
Dawson for an innocuous looking tackle on a Airbus player as they
tried to play the ball out from the back. For a local derby cup
match, the game was played in a great spirit. With very few fouls in
the game itself, for Dawson to be given his marching orders, seemed
extremely harsh.
Down to 10 men Buckley tried their hardest during the
second half but had to do a great deal of running to close Airbus
down. As the game went on Airbus became dominant as Buckley tired on
a heavy pitch and Danny Desmoreaux had the time and the space to
dictate play. Phil Molyneux scored his hat-trick with a header in
the 55 from a right sided cross that wrong footed Louis Makin.
To their credit Buckley kept going and as Adam
Renshaw turned on the right side of the box to go to play the ball
back he was upended by an Airbus defender. The linesman's flag
crossed his chest and Mitchell Booth scored a consolation goal for
Buckley.
With Matty Roberts and Shaun Jones both struggling at
the back with cramp Buckley never really got over the half way line
from that point on and Danny Desmoreaux made it five soon after.
A disappointing result but the boys can now
concentrate on their league form and a run of difficult games
starting with Llangefni's visit the Globe next Saturday. Buckley's
only real consolation was a good gate of just over 250 spectators
and a demonstration that Friday night is a viable option for clubs
to play games and avoid the competition of televised matches from
the English Premier league.
Thanks to all that attended, both home and away
supporters. We wish good luck to Airbus in the next round and all
the Cymru Alliance clubs playing tomorrow.
