Llanfairpwll Football Club
Click button for 5 Day Weather Forecast for Llanfairpwll from BBC Weather: Llanfairpwll are now in their sixth season in the Cymru Alliance League following promotion from the Welsh Alliance League. Darren Moore manages the team and he is only the third manager in over 25 years, which in itself is unique in these times of constant managerial changes. The team is made up mostly of locally based players with quiet a few having only played for Llanfair after coming through the club’s junior ranks. This could be the last season that the club plays its home games at the Gors, which has been their home for thirty years, as the groundwork on an eleven acre site at Maes Ellian is now complete, all that is now required is funding for the new changing rooms and as soon as this is acquired they will be able to move in. Llanfairpwll’s history can be traced back to the end of the 1890s and the club recently celebrated its centenary but, like all clubs there were periods of inactivity. More recently, there was a break from the early 1960s to the early 1970s before reforming and entering the Anglesey League. There followed a purple patch under the guidance of the legendary Now Parry, winning the league three years running and the coveted Dargie Cup four years on the trot. Now Parry was followed by Bryan Owen (now with our rivals Llangefni) and again success followed, winning all the Anglesey cups and the North Wales Junior Cup in seasons 81/82 and 82/83. After moving up to the Gwynedd League, when the league disbanded due to lack of numbers, the club had no option but going up to the Welsh League and, still under Bryan Owen, won that league in 1987/88. Now Parry returned and whilst finishing runners-up on three occasions they won the Barritt Cup and the Cookson Cup under his guidance. It is quite amazing for any club to be managed by only two men in nearly twenty years. Darren Moore, the present manager, took over the helm and the young team he inherited took a couple of seasons to find their feet and started their success by winning the Cookson Cup in season 1999/2000. This was followed in 2000/2001 by achieving an amazing treble - League Champions, Cookson Cup, and Barritt Cup, a treble only achieved once before, by Colwyn Bay. Promotion meant frenzied activity in getting the ground up to the required standard in the shortest ever close season, due to the season being plagued by the fuel crisis, the foot and mouth crisis and it being the wettest season on record. They struggled for the first couple of seasons but under Darren’s guidance have gradually consolidated and are justifiably proud of their record of never having been relegated. Intermingled with all the above, the club have met with numerous extended runs in the Welsh Senior Cup and exploits against Kidderminster, Shrewsbury, Bangor City, Rhyl, Aberystwyth are well documented and part of folklore, and in season 2001/2002 met Barry Town on the Gors, watched by 532 spectators and did not disgrace themselves against such distinguished opponents.
Take the A55 to Anglesey and cross the bridge. Take the first left onto the A480 and follow the road down into the town. You will find the ground on the right hand side of the road opposite the Railway Station. Llanfairpwll are due to move grounds soon from the Gors to Maes Ellian so these directions will need to be updated at a later date.
