Llandudno Football Club
Click button for 5 Day Weather Forecast for Llandudno from BBC Weather: Football in Llandudno dates back to 1878 when a club, probably known as Glodaeth Rovers was in existence for around a decade. This club was formed originally for the purpose of cricketers during their close season. A full International, Wales versus Ireland was played at the council field in Llandudno In 1898. Llandudno were founder members of the Welsh National League (North) in 1921, and were champions in 1923 and again later (1930) were League Cup winners. They also won the NWCFA Cup in 1926 and the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1929. Controversy struck the club in 1931 when the FAW instructed them to play in East Wales. The club refused and were suspended. However, they became founder members of the Welsh League North in 1935 and remained there until 1939. They returned after suspension for the war in 1946 and stayed until 1974. The club became champions in 1936 and 1937 and won the North Wales Amateur Cup again in 1948 and 1962. The Alves Cup was also won in 1951 and the Cookson Cup followed in 1965.
Llandudno moved to their current home at Maesdu Park in 1991 after the council
field was taken over by ASDA. Floodlights were erected and a clubhouse added in
1994. By 2002 the seating capacity was an impressive 130. Recently the club has acquired two new stands that have increased the seating even further. The club has also started a major refurbishment of its club house and plans to improve the stadium further so that when the time comes (not if), the club will be comparable to any ground in the Welsh Premiership. On the field Llandudno have proved themselves arguably the most consistent member of the league since joining in 1993. The club finished fourth in its first three seasons and after the disappointment of slipping to tenth in 2001-02 they were runners up in 2002-03 to eventual Champions Porthmadog, who they also lost out to in the final of the Coast Cup.
