Buckley Town Reserves verses Brickfield Rangers  - The Globe

Welsh National League Division 2

Saturday March 8th 2008

Another improvement on previous games although the final score may not be a true reflection on the dominance we showed.

From the first whistle we pushed forward against a hard working Brickfield team. We passed the ball very well even though the conditions where not the best. Mike Cunningham could have had a hatrick in the first 30 minutes but unfortunately he never had his shooting boots on shooting wide on four occasions. Daniel Walton also spurned chances but the score remained level after 30 minutes.

On 35 minutes a fine move that started from our right back Chris Lucas resulted in the ball being played to Daniel Moore on the left flank who cut inside and scored from 18 yards 1 – 0.

On 40 minutes a fine through pass from Gareth Murray resulted in Daniel Walton coolly passing the ball beyond the goalkeeper 2 – 0.

On 42 minutes we had what appeared to be a perfectly good goal disallowed for an infringement when a corner was spilled by the Brickfield keeper and Dave Catherall shot home.

Half Time: 2 - 0

The second half started as the first finished with some excellent passing the ball being spread across the pitch and chances being created but not finished off. Adam Brady crossed from the right and Daniel Walton shot wide.

After 55 minutes Steve Cleary came on for Colin Talbot and Kevin Jones came on for Mike Cunningham. Steve Cleary caused all sorts of problems down the left but on three occasions he shot wide. Daniel Moore was upended in the penalty box but even though he was plainly inside the referee gave a free kick outside the box.

After 60 minutes a fine move involving Dave Catherall and Gareth Murray resulted in Daniel Walton scoring from 12 yards 3 – 0.

On 80 minutes after a number of corner kicks Andrew Bingham headed home from 6 yards.

Final score: 4 - 0

Squad: Joey Makaruk, Chris Lucas, David Jones, Andrew Bingham, Daniel Moore, Adam Brady, Gareth Murray, Colin Talbot, Daniel Walton, Mike Cunningham, Dave Catherall.

Subs: Steve Cleary (55 mins), Kevin Jones (55 mins).

Goal scorers: Daniel Walton 2, Daniel Moore 1, Andrew Bingham 1.

Buckley Town Vs Ruthin Town Colts - at Ruthin

Welsh National League Division 2 - League Cup - ¼ Final

Saturday 26th January

With the help of Ruthin and the referee we switched this Div 2 cup game to Ruthin due to the Globe way ground being unplayable.

The Ruthin pitch although playable was not in its normal good condition due to an earlier youth game which forced both teams to play little football in their own half. We started off well playing some good football in the final third, Daniel Moore twice getting to the bye line and putting in good crosses only for the chances to be missed. A couple of goal mouth scrambles resulted in Ruthin clearing their lines.

After twenty five minutes following a period of poor play from Buckley a long ball deceived our defenders on the left, Ruthin's number nine was on his own on the corner of the penalty box and sent a superb left footed shot into the far top corner leaving Joey Mak helpless (0 -1).

We continued to try and play football and created a chance for Daniel Walton who shot wide. After 30 mins a superb through ball from Gareth Murray put Dave Catherall clear who expertly chipped the advancing goalkeeper. Although Ruthin appealed for off side their right full back was clearly playing us on side (1 -1).

On 35 minutes, following a corner from our left which was cleared, Ruthin played the ball back into the danger area and scored. Fortunately the Ruthin goal was disallowed for off side. The final minutes of the half where marred by some bad discipline by both teams with very little creative football played.

Following the half time break we came out by far the stronger, creating numerous chances but not converting. Joey Mak was rarely troubled in our goal. Adam Brady was putting in some great crosses, Daniel Moore headed wide from 6 yards and following a great 45 yard cross field pass in the 55th minute Daniel Walton took the ball in his stride and hit a unstoppable shot from 25 yards (2 -1).

There again was a period when both teams struggled but on 65 minutes Daniel Walton settled our nerves when he nipped in and stole the ball from a Ruthin defender rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home ( 3 – 1).

Squad – Joey Makaruk, Chris Lucas, Andrew Bingham, Steve Jones, Kevin Groom, Adam Brady, Gareth Murray, Colin Talbot, Daniel Moore, Daniel Walton, Dave Catheral

Subs: Ali Stubbs (Gareth Murray 67 mins), Kevin Jones (Adam Brady 70 mins), Tom Clarke.

Buckley Town Vs Llay Welfare - The Globe

Welsh National League Division 2

Saturday 27th October

Both teams had been playing well with Llay 3rd and Buckley 5th in the League. We started off strongly putting the Llay defence under pressure from the start but Llay easily with stood our efforts. After 15 mins a through ball put the Llay defence under pressure and the centre backs "back pass" was brilliantly saved by the wrong footed goalkeeper but the referee only gave us a corner instead of an expected free kick. The corner was headed over from close range.

After 25mins a misunderstanding in our defence resulted in Joey having to clear a soft back pass. Llay immediately created their best chance but shot wide.

40 mins (1 – 0) a fine move resulted in a through pass and when the visitors defence stopped for off side, Rob ran from a midfield position to round the keeper and score.

45 mins (2 – 0) following some pressure down our right we took a quick throw resulting in Brady's shot being saved. From the resulting scramble Michael Cunningham scored from close range.

The second half started with a lot of midfield possession from both sides. Rob made a chance for Cunni but he shot wide. 53 mins in subs Colin Talbot for Andy Brady and Andy Kendrick for Stephen Jones. This was Andy's first game for two years following a serious injury.

55 mins (3 – 0) Rob was then up ended in the box and Cunni scored from the spot kick. 58 mins sub Mark Williams off for Steven Cleary.

65 mins (4-0) Michael Cunnigham completed his hatrick finishing off a fine move started from Joey to Chris, Colin , Dave Cat and finally to Cunni to finish it off.

The last 20 mins resulted in no real chances with Llay to their credit not giving up and competing well, a message we must remember as we are at their place next Saturday I am sure they will be after revenge.

Final Score: Buckley Town 4 – 0 Llay Welfare

Mike Cunningham 3, Rob Williams 1

Squad: Joey Makaruk, Chris Lucas, Stephen Jones, Leigh Jones, Andy Bingham, Adam Brady, Gareth Murray, Dave Catheral, Mark Williams, Mike Cunnigham, Rob Williams

Subs: Steve Cleary 58 mins, Colin Talbot 53 mins, Andy Kendrick 53 mins

Mold Alex Vs Buckley Town FC - Alyn Park

Welsh National League Division 2

Friday 19th October

We travelled to well fancied Mold Alex who where lying second in the league for a Friday night game. The fourteen man squad included four sixteen year olds and two seventeen year olds and all the talk before the game was how difficult the game was to be.

The match started at a quick pace which was pleasing, with some crisp passing putting Michael Cunningham free but the keeper saved well. After 8 mins a fine flowing move down the right resulted in Steve Cleary firing an unstoppable shot past the home keeper ( 1 0). We continued to press creating lots of chances, but worryingly not scoring.

After 25 mins Rob Williams scored from 20 metres (2 0). Mold where having a fair amount of possession but where not causing our defence any

problems. 35 mins in Steve scored his second, again coming in from the left to get on the end of a cross from the right (3 0). Andy Brady came close with a fine long range effort just before half time.

Half Time 3-0

The second half started as the first, every player being committed and passing the ball well, full backs where getting forward; the forward movement was excellent and solid defence. On 50 mins Michael Cunningham cut in from the left and scored from 18 metres (4 0). Steve Cleary missed a great opportunity to get his hatrick but shot wide and was injured for his troubles (51 mins Mark Stephens replaced Cleary).

53mins Mike Cunningham scored from close range after fine work from Rob and Mark (5 0). 55 mins Rob Williams scored with an assist from Dave Catheral and Adam Brady (6 0). 56 mins Andrew Bingham pushed forward from defence and got on the end of a five man move (7 0). 60 mins Michael Cunningham completed his hatrick (8 0). 60 mins Danny Ditchburn replaces Adam Brady, Josh Jones replaced Chris Lucas.

The rest of the half carried on the same way with Mold having equal amounts of possession but not troubling our goal. We continued to create chances without adding any more goals.

A great performance and something for us to aim for in the coming weeks and months.

Final score: Mold Alex 0 Buckley Town 8

Squad: Joey Makaruk, Chris Lucas (60 mins), Andrew Bingham, Steve Jones, Daniel Moore, Adam Brady (60 mins), Dave Catharel, Gareth Murray, Steve Cleary (51 mins)

Subs, Mark Stephens (51 mins), Danny Ditchburn (60 mins), Josh Jones (60mins).

More news, Josef Makaruk has been selected to play for the NEWFA Under 18 team to play NWCFA at Llandudno on Tuesday 23rd October, 2007.

Ruthin Town Colts Vs Buckley Town FC away

Welsh National League Division 2

Saturday, 6th October 2007

The game opened with very little shape, Ruthin had a lot of the ball without creating anything.

10 mins in a good move started on our right that resulted in Rob Williams shooting over. We continued to press creating a chance for Mike Cunningham but the goalkeeper saved well turning his shot over the bar. Soon after Adam Brady was booked after a lunge at the Ruthin full back. On 15 mins a fine passing move resulted in a cross from the left which found Brady at the far post. He kept the ball alive and Cunningham scored from 8 metres.

On 20 minutes Ruthin where then awarded a penalty after a miss understanding in defence resulted in Groom tripping the Ruthin forward. Joey guessed right but could not stop a well directed penalty, 1 – 1.

Straight from the restart Rob Williams sent a great curling shot beyond the goalkeeper into the top corner 2 -1.

We continued to press with some fine football played. A deflected cross narrowly went over the Ruthin cross bar, a number of half charges went wide and then a move down the left resulted in Rob Williams being clean through. He was brought down from behind but the referee waved away appeals for a foul.

Half time 2 – 1.

The second half started with Buckley on the attack from the start. In the 55th minute a cross field ball found Cunningham and he made it 3 -1. 60 minutes in Cunningham converted his third after taking a through ball that was intended for Brady, 4 -1. We continued to work hard in the heat and created quite a few more chances until Cunningham converted his fourth on 75 minutes.

A very pleasing result with everyone playing their part especially considering the average age of the team was only19.

Final Score: Ruthin Town Colts 0-4 Buckley Town Reserves

Michael Cunningham (4), Rob Williams (1)

BTFC Squad: J Makaruk, C Lucas, K Groom, S Jones, A Bingham, A Brady, G Murray , D Catherall, D Moore, M Cunningham, R Williams.

Subs , T Clarke (Brady 65), G Edwards (Moore 70).

Corwen Reserves Vs Buckley Town FC away

Welsh National League Division 2

Saturday, 29th September 2007

Playing 4-4-2 we found it hard to get going our passing and movement was not to our usual standard.  After 10 minutes some very sloppy passing led to the Corwen striker being free on goal only to shoot wide. After 15 mins again we gave the ball away and Joey had to make a good save at the strikers feet. This lucky escape lifted our players and we started to dominate with several efforts at the Corwen goal without really troubling the Corwen goalkeeper.

Half time 0 – 0

In the second half we came out with a greater purpose, our passing was sharper and we had Corwen on the back foot. After one of Corwen's rare attacks in the 60th minute, we broke away with Tom Clarke down the right who crossed for Mike Cunningham to score. Again after 65 mins Tom crossed from the left just a little too high for Cunni.

After 70 mins a cross field pass from Steve Jones to full back Daniel Moore was a little short but Daniel managed to take it past the Corwen forward and into the Corwen half. His strike from 25 metres hit the back of the net. Two subs where made, Tom and Steve Cleary coming off for Gareth Edwards and Mark Stephens and after a flowing move Gareth played in Adam Brady who shot across the keeper into the top corner, another great goal. We still continued to dominate with chances going begging when on 82 mins Mark Stephens hit a shot from 25 metres into the top corner take your pick from four really good goals.

Final Score: Corwen Reserves 0-4 Buckley Town FC

Michael Cunningham, Daniel Moore, Adam Brady, Mark Stephens.

BTFC Squad: Josef Makaruk, Chris Lucas, Gareth Murray, Steve Jones, Daniel Moore, Steve Cleary (72 mins), Adam Brady, Dave Catherall, Colin Talbot, Mike Cunningham, Tom Clarke (72 mins).

Subs: Gareth Edwards (72 mins), Mark Stephens (72 mins).

Garden Village Vs Buckley Town FC away

Welsh National League Division 2

Saturday, 22nd September 2007

Buckley Town Reserves travelled to Garden Village who had started the season strongly winning their first three games. Playing down the slope Buckley pressed from the start with a number of half chances going wide. Tom Clarke was put clear after a five man move but his shot went over the cross bar from 10 metres. Both full backs where getting forward well and after Chris Lucas crossed from the right Michael Cunningham scored his sixth goal in four games.

Right on the stroke of half time ‘Cunni’ was clean through and was pulled back for a free kick, up stepped Kevin Groom to curl the ball around the wall into the bottom corner from 25 metres. Garden Village only troubled the Buckley defence with their use of long throw-ins and long balls.

Half Time 2 - 0 to Buckley

The second half started as we expected with the home team putting us under pressure so the next goal would be very important. After ten minutes of the second half a long ball fell to a Garden Village player who appeared to be off side the referee was well placed to ignore the appeals, Kevin Groom chased back and cleared for a corner (we thought) the referee blew for a penalty 2 - 1.

After 60 mins Mark Stephens replaced Tom Clarke.

The game settled down and we got more possession. Steve Cleary was brought down when he was clear on goal but nothing come from the free kick. After 65 mins Danny Moore came off injured and was replaced by Brady. We were still looking comfortable when a ball was played in harmlessly from the left resulting in a scrambled goal for Garden Village. Stephen Cleary was injured in this and with no subs left was merely a bystander.

In the remaining minutes Buckley still created chances, Stephens headed wide from a cross from Cunningham and following a flowing move from the defence a Cunningham header was saved by the home goalkeeper.

Final Score: Garden Village 2 - 2 Buckley Town Reserves:

Michael Cunningham, Kevin Groom.

BTFC Squad: Josef Makaruk; Chris Lucas; Kevin Groom; Stephen Jones; Daniel Moore (65 mins); Steve Cleary; Gareth Murray; Dave Catherall; Colin Talbot; Tom Clarke (60 mins); Mike Cunningham.

Subs Adam Brady (65 mins); Mark Stephens (60 mins).

Buckley Town FC Vs Acrefair at The Globe

Welsh National League Division 2

Saturday, 25th August 2007

The reserves squad lined up at the start in a 3 - 5 -2 formation, the hope being to use the pace of Phil and Craig on the wings. We started strongly with Mike Cunni missing after 5 mins after being put clear. Numerous half chances where created with several long range efforts not troubling the Acrefair keeper. 30 mins a move resulted in the Acrefair centre forward having a clear chance which was well saved by Joey. Acrefair then put us under a bit of pressure as we battled to keep our formation. 42nd minute a corner swung in from the left by Phil Radcliffe went straight in off the goalkeeper 1 - 0.

Half Time 1 - 0

No changes where made at half time, Acrefair put us under alot of pressure at the beginning of the half as they exploited the large gaps in our defence. 55 mins Acrefair drew level after we gave away a soft penalty, the formation was not working. 1 - 1 58 mins Acrefair centre forward clean through on goal but hit it straight at Joey 60 mins after some smart inter play between Dave and Rob, Mike Cunni was put clear and beat the goalie 2 - 1 65 minsChanges where made with us reverting back to 4 - 4 -2. The shape looked a lot better but following a corner from the left Acrefair drew level again 2 - 2. We then put together a period of increased pressure on the visitors with some nice passing resulting in a goal from Mike Cunni 3 - 2 (70 mins) 75 mins Acrefair gave a soft penalty away when Rob was fouled from behind Kev Groom converted the penalty 4 - 2. 80 mins Dave Catt beat the offside trap to make it 5 - 2 We continued to play well keeping the ball and looking soild at the back Craig had a goal disallowed for hand ball.

Final score 5 - 2

Mike Cunningham 2, Phil Radcliffe 1, Kev Groom 1, Dave Catherall 1

BTFC Squad - Joey Makaruk, Andy Bingham, Steve Jones (mule), Kev Groom, Phil Radcliffe, Colin Talbot, Gareth Murray (65 mins), Dave Catherall, Craig Sommerville, Rob Williams, Mike Cunningham.

Subs Daniel Moore (65 mins) Steve Jones(baggy) and Andy Brady not used.
